Joseph Krieger was born on 9 May 1881, in Austria. He was married to Amalie Wohlfieler (3 Aug. 1885-20 June 1980). The couple came to San Francisco during their honeymoon, in 1906, and never returned to Austria. In 1917, the couple invented the tea bag for use in hotels.
